Meet Leslie Patten

Leslie Patten has a B.A in Art, a B.A in English, and an M.F.A in Creative Writing with an emphasis in poetry, all from the University of Washington. Leslie began her teaching career working one-on-one with students in a writing lab in a community college while she was still in graduate school.  She went on to teach writing and literature at the college level for ten years and has extensive experience working with students with learning differences. While her children were young, she taught literature and poetry on a volunteer basis in their elementary classrooms. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she started tutoring middle school, high school, and college students on-line. She enjoyed tutoring so much, she continues to do just that.

-Cole Chavez, high school student

"My son, Cole, has been working with Leslie for the last three years, and I can confidently say it has been one of the most enriching experiences of his academic career. Her patience and understanding helped Cole feel comfortable expressing his difficulties without fear of judgment. Leslie took the time to understand his specific challenges and tailored the lessons to meet his needs. I have noticed significant improvements in Cole’s skills; his vocabulary and writing have drastically improved. He feels supported and understood. I cannot recommend Leslie Patten highly enough. If you are looking for someone who is not only knowledgeable but also compassionate and dedicated, she is the perfect choice.”

“Having Leslie as a tutor has been a truly transformative experience for my son. She is more than just a tutor — she genuinely cares about his growth, both academically and personally. Leslie takes the time to understand who my son is as a person — his strengths, challenges, learning style, and even what makes him smile or when he is sad. He not only improved in school, but also gained confidence, motivation, and a sense of being truly supported. I'm so grateful to have someone who not only teaches with skill and patience but also listens, encourages, and believes in my son and makes him believe in himself!”
